Despacito is a 2017 song that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most streamed track across the globe within the space of six months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. In 2015 there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito album reached its peak popularity in 2017, 19 tracks primarily made in Spanish were in into the Top 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma on Medellin in the year 2019. As early as the year 2020, some musicians from reggaeton were unhappy with the way the genre was shifting towards the popular. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation of musicians who are determined to shift the course. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music as well as other forms.
